Happy Heritage Day!
Here in Alberta we have a civic holiday today - Heritage Day! Back in 1974 the Alberta Government declared the first Monday of August an annual holiday to recognize and celebrate the varied cultural heritage of Albertans. That year and again in 1975, a multicultural concert was held in Edmonton to celebrate the diversity of cultures in Alberta. This occasion marked the early days of the Edmonton Heritage Festival, which still plays an important role in promoting Alberta’s heritage and now features about 60 pavilions representing more than 75 cultures. It is a great chance for families to explore and celebrate Alberta's historical places as well as beautiful natural spaces.
Since it is a holiday Shane is not working and we hope to get out to visit Fort Calgary or Heritage Park if the forecasted thundershowers hold off. But right now I have some cinnamon buns in the oven now and plan to simply enjoy a lazy morning with coffee and my boys! Tonight we are heading to my dad's place for a family BBQ so that means I don't have to cook! Great day!
For the rest of the week, this is what I have planned for meals:
Sunday: Grilled Burgers, coleslaw
Monday: Family "potluck" BBQ - steaks, baked beans, salads etc.
Tuesday: Jambalaya (I use Zatarains mix and add leftover chicken, ham or sausage) and salad
Wednesday: Skillet Cheeseburger Pasta (we didn't have this last week as it was too hot to cook!) veggies and dip
Thursday: Chicken Caesar Salad and buns
Friday: Pizza night of course!
Saturday: Eat out or leftovers or take-out or whatever...I"M NOT COOKING!
Make sure to have a look at all the amazing menu plans at Orgjunkie!
Have a great week!
