Halloween Sketch, Layouts and Project Ideas Featuring Carving Memories and Wicked Cute!
Who knows what Halloween will be like this year? With the Coronavirus Pandemic still affecting many areas I'm not sure how many kids will be out Trick or Treating, or what type of celebrations will occur. But as scrapbookers, no matter what Halloween looks like we still want to document it! And even though Creative Memories 2020 Halloween products - the Carving Memories Theme Pack and Laser-Cut Borders - sold out in record time, I've got a few suggestions for fun options for scrapping your spooky photos this year.
First up, let's talk products. You can still get the Digital Carving Memories Kit, which can be used with most Digital Scrapbooking Programs (I use Artisan by Forever) as the images come n JPG and PNG format, and last year's Wicked Cute is still available in both Traditional and Digital formats. In fact you can purchase a fantastic fun Wicked Cute Create & Take Kit from now until October 27th that includes the Paper Pack and Stickers plus bonus Washi Tape and downloadable Project Idea Sheet! How fun! And of course many of us have Halloween products from previous years in our stash, so don't be afraid to dig those out to use as well!
Now let's get on to some Halloween projects! Some of you know that I am currently staying with my son in the Shriner's Hospital in Montreal while he undergoes Halo Traction in preparation for his back surgery later this month and don't have any physical scrapbook supplies with me. Since we probably won't be home before Halloween, I'm opting to share some suggestions and links for previous Halloween projects that feature the physical Wicked Cute Collection, as well as a new sketch and some digital sample layouts using both the Carving Memories AND Wicked Cute Digital Kits!
If you have Wicked Cute in your stash or are planning to purchase the Wicked Cute Create & Take Kit , I'm revisiting a couple of fun projects for you from last year that you can make this year...an interactive mini-album and a 1-2-3 layout!
The Wicked Cute Mini-Album was created for a class at the 2019 Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival hosted by Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. It's easy to make from just three pieces of 12" x 12" cardstock and four pieces of double sided patterned paper. You can get the FREE printable guide with supply list, cutting guide and step-by-step instructions in the OCM Shop here. In the accompanying video I show you how to make the album using Christmas Products, but at the end you'll see a flip through of the completed Halloween Mini-Album as well.
The Wicked Cute 1-2-3 Sketch and Layout was created in October 2019 and shows, like all of my 1-2-3 Layouts, how to create a two page spread from one piece of patterned paper, two pieces of cardstock and with only three cuts! You can get your copy of the free handout and see the video that goes along with it here! (and while you're there, definitely consider joining the FREE OCM Membership Library where you can access back copies of more 1-2-3 Layouts and Projects like this!)
OK...finally, here is the NEW sketch and a couple of sample layouts! I created these for my #FeatureProjectFriday post over on the Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook Page. The two page sketch has room to feature five freaky Halloween photos - although you can certainly add more. And the central border strip allows for lots of different fun border additions! (TIP: Although I don't have a handout for this sketch, you can right click on the image and save the sketch to your computer or print.)
You can use this sketch whether you are creating a traditional or digital page. The photo sizes are indicated on the sketch and the measurements for the paper pieces are as follows:
- two 12" w x 2" h strips cut from one patterned paper: placed across the middle of both pages
- two 11" w x 4" h rectangles cut from a second patterned paper: placed above the strips and aligned with the inside edges of the layout
- two 11" w x 4" h rectangles cut from a third patterned paper: placed below the strips and aligned with the inside edges of the layout
I used the Carving Memories Digital Kit to create this digital layout that follows the sketch very closely. The great thing about working digitally is that you can resize all your elements (like the spiders and their corner spiderwebs!) and you can use them over and over again. As an example of this benefit, in the physical Carving Memories Laser-Cut Border pack you only get one of the black laser-cut spiderweb borders, but when I use the Digital kit, I can add as many as I want and never run out!
Since I was already playing around in my Artisan program, it was easy to create another similar layout but give it a few tweaks. I created this mirror image version of the sketch using the Wicked Cute Digital Kit, and again, I love being able to resize elements (like those cute ghosts!) to fit the space I have, and to re-use elements like the small candies over and over to create the border design! It's also fun to cut the corners of some of my papers just like I would if I was scrapbooking a traditional layout and using my regular Two-Way Corner Rounder.
I hope one or all of these ideas will help you document Halloween 2020...which may prove to be the weirdest Halloween ever! Don't forget to order your Wicked Cute Create & Take Kit before they disappear on October 27th and to come join us on our Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook Page where we share lots of project ideas featuring Creative Memories products! Happy Scrapping!
