SYSSS Week 7 - 3 'n 3!
Welcome to Week 7 of our Scrap-Your-Stash Summer Saturdays! Thanks to all who "stripped" last week, and added your layout photos to the album on the facebook page! If you're just joining us, this is how it works: Each Saturday until September 8th I'll provide you with the theme of the week and a checklist of supplies. You'll "shop" your supply stash and choose the items and photos that you want to use.
The checklist will be specific to the TYPE of items you'll need, but you'll have total flexibility as to the ACTUAL item you choose to use. For example, the checklist might say "floral paper, cardstock, flower embellishments", but you can choose the color & style of the floral paper, the color of cardstock to coordinate with it and whether you want to use die-cuts, stickers, or punched flower embellishments.
Substitutions are encouraged: if you don't have or don't like a suggested item in your stash, switch it up for something you do have/like. For example if you absolutely hate floral papers, sub in a striped or other patterned paper, cardstock to coordinate and some geometric embellishments. It's totally up to you! All that's left to do once you've chosen your items is to create and share! (Note: feel free to use ANY brand of supplies - you do not need to use Creative Memories...although that's probably what you'll see in my layouts ha ha!) Alright...are we ready for week 7? We're going to take inspiration from the number "3" (every designer's favorite number!) and use three photos and three different scraps of patterned paper on our layouts this week! If you're like me, you want to get more than just one or two photos on each scrapbook page. And although I love doing 1-2-3 pages where I use the two patterns on a single piece of patterned paper to make quick pages, I do love the look of a multi-patterned page. So let's find three photos and three different papers and get to work!
I've got a simple sketch for you this week showing how easily you can make three different patterns play nicely together on your page...
If you struggle with making different patterns work together, look for a similar color scheme in the scraps you choose. I dug through some old CM paper packs and chose a floral paper from Fresh Picks paper pack, a wood themed paper from the Woodland Whimsy Boy paper pack and a plaid (geometric) paper from the Evergreen Mix and Match paper pack. Although not exactly the same, the floral and plaid share the green tones, while the wood patterned paper provides a neutral that seems to "connect" the two different patterns. Remember that although I suggest these three types of patterns, feel free to choose patterns that speak to YOU and work with YOUR photos!
Also, remember that the sketch is just a starting point...if you have more than three photos, this sketch could easily be turned into a two page spread. If your photos are not the same orientation as shown, simply turn the sketch 90 degrees so you have two vertical and one horizontal photo. Make it work for YOU! I can't wait to see what you come up with! (Note: While there is no printable download for this sketch, if you'd like to print a copy for yourself, simply right click on it, then print or save the image.)
Here's the Supply List for this week:
- 12" x 12" paper for the layout base (cardstock or album page)
- 10" x 5" piece of floral patterned paper
- 10" x 5" piece of geometric patterned paper
- 12" x 2.5" strip of wood patterned paper
- Letter stickers or die-cuts for the title
- Embellishments that work for your theme - stickers, die-cuts etc.
- Any other supplies you want to add once your layout starts to take shape
Once you've picked your supplies, create your layout, take a photo of it and upload it to the OCM Facebook Page in the Week 7 Album (follow the link or choose "Photos" from the left hand sidebar on the main page, click on the Week 7 image, and then click on "Add Photos"...or simply add a comment with a photo.)
You can post it anytime, but those that are posted in the album by next Friday night will have a chance at our next prize!
Happy scrapping!
