SYSSS - Week 2 - Red, White & Blue!

Welcome to Week 2 of our Scrap-Your-Stash Summer Saturdays! Thanks to all who played along last week and uploaded Summer Bucket List Layouts to the album on the facebook page. How fun! If you're just joining us, this is how it works: Each Saturday until September 8th I'll provide you with the theme of the week and a checklist of supplies. You'll "shop" your supply stash and choose the items and photos that you want to use.

The checklist will be specific to the TYPE of items you'll need, but you'll have total flexibility as to the ACTUAL item you choose to use. For example, the checklist might say "floral paper, cardstock, flower embellishments", but you can choose the color & style of the floral paper, the color of cardstock to coordinate with it and whether you want to use die-cuts, stickers, or punched flower embellishments.

Substitutions are encouraged: if you don't have or don't like a suggested item in your stash, switch it up for something you do have/like. For example if you absolutely hate floral papers, sub in a striped or other patterned paper, cardstock to coordinate and some geometric embellishments. It's totally up to you! All that's left to do once you've chosen your items is to create and share!
(Note: feel free to use ANY brand of supplies - you do not need to use Creative Memories...although that's probably what you'll see in my layouts ha ha!)
Ready for week 2? OK!
Since there are patriotic days for both Canada and the USA in the coming week, it's only fitting that we dig in our stashes for RED, WHITE & BLUE papers & embellishments!

If you're not in Canada or the States, or if you're just not into creating a patriotic layout, you can still use this fresh summer color combo - it will work with so many photos! And I've got two different inspirations for you this week...one is the Pinterest board of Red, White & Blue layouts that you can see here, and one is a re-purposed sketch:

I dug out this sketch because of it's summery feel - thinking it will work perfectly with our R,W & B color scheme! Switch out the butterflies and clouds for stars or maple leaves, layer in some fabulous R,W & B papers and you'd have a great patriotic layout. Or use flowers and butterflies to keep the summer themes going. Flip it around or add a mirror image to the side to make it into a two pager. And of course you can add or remove photos as needed. (I actually designed this sketch when I was a content contributor for Creative Memories the first year that the new CM was back. They were having a baby layout challenge and I designed four sketches that people could vote on, and then the winning sketch was made into the layout with the new Baby products. That contest is long gone, but you can check out all four layouts I designed here.)

Here's the Supply List for this week:

- 12" x 12" red, white or blue paper for background (solid cardstock or patterned paper)
- Variety of additional red, white and blue papers (scraps or full sheets)
- Red, white and blue embellishments - flowers, stars, chipboard, dimensional shapes or die-cuts, rhinestones/gems, buttons, ribbons, twine etc.
- Sketch from above (Tip: although there is no printable of the sketch, if you'd like to print it for reference, right click on the image and save it to your computer. Then you can open it in a photo editing program and print from there.)
- Any other supplies you want to add once your layout starts to take shape - ie: punches, borders, mat cards etc.

And here are the R,W & B supplies I dug out of my stash this week:

There's quite a bit of paper from an old CM Stack Pack called Freedom, which still has a few bonus die-cuts left in it; a few sheets of patterned paper from the Bookworm school-themed collection from Fall 2016; Red, White and Navy Cardstock; some blue and red star and square adhesive gems from the Bookworm Embellishment Pack; red, white and blue buttons from the button jar; red ribbon; and navy and white bakers twine. FUN!

Once you've decided on your materials, create your layout, snap a photo of it and upload it to the OCM Facebook Page in the Week 2 Album (follow the link or choose "Photos" from the left hand sidebar on the main page, click on the Week 2 image, and then click on "Add Photos"...or simply add in a comment.)

You can post it anytime, but those that are posted in the album by next Friday night will have a chance at our next prize!
I'll share my take on this theme on the facebook page tomorrow!
Happy scrapping!

  1. I love this sketch! But I couldn't find a pinterest board of red, white, and blue layouts when I clicked on the link.
